Pakistan incurred penalties for maintaining a slow over-rate during the second Test against South Africa in Cape Town, resulting in fines and a loss of World Test Championship (WTC) points, as per an ICC statement.
The team was fined 25% of their match fees and penalized five WTC points after being found five overs behind the required target, even after accounting for time allowances.
These penalties followed Pakistan’s 10-wicket loss to South Africa at Newlands and were imposed under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which deducts 5% of match fees for every over a team falls short.
In addition, WTC points were deducted according to Article 16.11.2 of the playing conditions, which enforces a one-point deduction per missed over.
The charges were filed by on-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Nitin Menon, third umpire Alex Wharf, and fourth umpire Stephen Harris. Match referee Richie Richardson from the ICC Elite Panel issued the sanctions.
Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the charges and pleaded guilty to the offence.
