Car Thief Killed in Police Encounter, and Brother Killed in Family Dispute Over Property

In Rawalpindi Taxila police reported on Wednesday that a suspected car thief was killed during a shootout with law enforcement officers while attempting to flee with two accomplices after stealing a vehicle.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the incident occurred when a police patrol stationed at the Kangu checkpoint signaled a white car to stop at approximately 1:10 am. Instead of complying, the driver sped away, prompting the police to pursue the vehicle.

The chase led to Mohra Muradu, where the driver lost control, causing the car to crash into roadside barriers. Three men exited the vehicle and fled toward nearby fields, firing at the pursuing officers as they ran. The police took cover behind their patrol car and returned fire. The suspects disappeared into the darkness, but during a subsequent search, the police discovered the body of an unidentified man lying on the road.

The deceased was later identified as Musa Khan, a resident of Muzaffarabad, Azad Kashmir. According to the police, Musa appeared to have been accidentally shot by his fleeing accomplices. A spokesperson stated that the deceased had a criminal record and was wanted in several car theft cases registered in Rawalpindi and Lahore. The car involved in the incident was confirmed to have been stolen earlier that evening. Faisal Rehman, a resident of Inayat Shahi in Taxila, reported to the police that his car, parked outside his office near Taxila Museum at 9 pm, had gone missing.

In a separate incident, Dhamial police apprehended a man on Wednesday for allegedly killing his elder brother during a property dispute in Quaid-e-Azam Colony on January 19.

According to the FIR filed by the victim’s father, Ansar Mehmood, the family dispute escalated when Asad Ali, the eldest son, demanded that the family house be sold so he could use the money to start a property business. The father explained that the argument took place at around 12:30 am when he, along with his other sons—Hassan Ali, Hussain Ali, and Muhammad Bilal—was at home. During the altercation, Asad reportedly began abusing and physically attacking Hassan, who then responded by shooting Asad in the courtyard. Asad died instantly, and Hassan fled the scene.

Police later arrested Hassan Ali in connection with the incident.
