LUMS Hosts Annual Career Fair to Strengthen Industry-Academia Linkages

The Career Services Office (CSO) at LUMS recently organized its Annual Career Fair, a flagship event designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry by providing students with direct access to leading employers. This year’s edition featured participation from over 200 prestigious national and international companies, engaging with more than 1,800 students and alumni across various disciplines. Through on-site interviews, career counseling, and resume submissions, attendees gained valuable insights into hiring processes and career trajectories, preparing them for an ever-evolving job market.

LUMS continues to uphold its top ranking in Pakistan for graduate employability, with an impressive 95% of the Class of 2024 securing jobs within nine months of graduation. This achievement highlights the university’s strong industry connections and career-driven initiatives. Additionally, LUMS has made a significant leap in the QS World University Rankings 2024, advancing by over 100 places and placing it among the top 36% of universities globally—a reflection of its commitment to academic and professional excellence.

Fostering Local Talent in a Challenging Economy

Given Pakistan’s economic challenges, retaining skilled graduates within the country has become increasingly important. Events like the LUMS Career Fair play a crucial role in linking students with local career opportunities, encouraging them to contribute to Pakistan’s economic development and innovation rather than seeking opportunities abroad.

Speaking on the importance of the Career Fair, Dr. Ali Cheema, Vice Chancellor of LUMS, highlighted its diversity:

“A distinctive aspect of the LUMS Annual Career Fair is the wide representation of industries. Companies from sectors such as research, non-profits, and the corporate world participate, offering students exposure to a broad spectrum of career opportunities. With an alumni network of over 19,000 professionals excelling in diverse fields—ranging from business and media to civil service—this event broadens students’ career perspectives and industry awareness.”

Comprehensive Career Support Beyond the Fair

Beyond the Annual Career Fair, the LUMS Career Services Office actively supports students through 15+ career development initiatives aimed at enhancing job readiness and professional growth. These include:

Alumni mentorship programs
On-campus recruitment drives
Industry office visits
Peer-to-peer career guidance

By fostering a culture of career preparedness and innovation, LUMS remains dedicated to equipping graduates with the skills and knowledge needed to excel as future leaders in Pakistan’s evolving job market and beyond.
