Urs Celebrations of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar to Begin with Devotion and Festivity
The annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is set to begin with deep spiritual devotion and enthusiasm, as thousands of devotees from across Pakistan gather in Sehwan Sharif to pay tribute to the revered Sufi saint. In view of the large-scale participation, the district administration has declared a public holiday to facilitate the event.
The Deputy Commissioner of Jamshoro has officially designated Monday, February 17, as a public holiday across the district. According to an official notification, all government offices, educational institutions, and public sector organizations in Sehwan will remain closed to ensure smooth arrangements and allow devotees to participate in the celebrations without inconvenience.
Spiritual and Cultural Significance
The three-day Urs celebrations hold immense cultural and spiritual importance, attracting thousands of devotees, Sufi followers, and tourists from different parts of the country. The event features a series of religious and traditional activities, including:
- Dhamal (spiritual dance) performed in rhythmic devotion at the shrine.
- Qawwali sessions where renowned Sufi singers pay tribute to Lal Shahbaz Qalandar through soulful renditions.
- Mehfil-e-Samaa (spiritual gatherings) where scholars and Sufi followers discuss the saint’s teachings of love, unity, and spirituality.
- Charity and Langar (free meals) distributed among devotees as an act of service and devotion.
Enhanced Security and Logistical Arrangements
Given the large influx of devotees, authorities have taken extensive measures to ensure a peaceful and organized event. Security has been heightened, with additional police and law enforcement personnel deployed across Sehwan Sharif and around the shrine. Checkpoints, CCTV surveillance, and metal detectors have been installed to maintain law and order.
In addition, medical camps and emergency response teams have been set up to provide immediate healthcare services. Special arrangements for traffic management, parking zones, and public transport have also been put in place to facilitate visitors.
