Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi officially inaugurated a new passport office at Karachi’s Nadra Mega Centre in Nazimabad on Wednesday, aiming to enhance public access to passport services.
The newly launched facility will operate 24/7, functioning in three shifts to ensure that citizens can apply for passports at any time of the day or night. This step is expected to significantly reduce waiting times and streamline the passport issuance process.
The initiative comes in response to growing concerns over overcrowding at the main passport office. Immigration and Passports Director General Mustafa Jamal Qazi had earlier announced plans to establish additional passport offices at Nadra mega centres in North Nazimabad and Siemens Chowrangi, a move designed to alleviate congestion and improve service delivery.
During the inauguration, Naqvi personally inspected the passport processing counters, interacted with staff, and engaged with visitors to gather feedback on their experiences. He was given a detailed briefing on the centre’s operational framework and its expected impact on efficiency.
Additionally, Naqvi addressed issues raised by women undergoing biometric verification under the Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP). Acknowledging their concerns, he instructed authorities to take swift measures to resolve their difficulties, reaffirming the government’s dedication to improving public services and addressing citizens’ grievances.
This initiative reflects the government’s ongoing efforts to modernize and expand essential services, ensuring greater accessibility and convenience for the people of Karachi.
