Khawaja Asif Accuses Imran Khan of Attempting to Undermine Army, Economy, and Governance

Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has accused Imran Khan, the founder of PTI, of repeatedly sending letters to the army chief, urging his involvement in political matters.

In a recent interview, Asif mentioned that while the army chief is currently in the UK, a campaign to discredit him is being spread on social media. He pointed out the hypocrisy in PTI’s previous stance, stating that the party once revered the army chief as a “fatherly figure,” but now certain factions are attempting to tarnish his image.

Asif also alleged that PTI’s aim was to have Faiz Hameed appointed as the army chief, so the military could be brought under the party’s control. He accused PTI of inciting violence during the events of May 9, 2023, and November 24, 2024, suggesting that the party is now facing the repercussions of these actions.

The minister further claimed that PTI had even written to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) with the intention of sabotaging Pakistan’s economy.

According to Asif, the government’s ongoing efforts have led to notable progress in both economic stability and governance, while a free and independent judiciary has created discomfort within PTI.

Concluding his remarks, Asif expressed confidence in Pakistan’s future, suggesting that PTI would eventually fade into the past.
