NEPRA Imposes Rs10 Million Fine on NTDC for Safety Violations

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has imposed a Rs10 million fine on the National Transmission and Despatch Company (NTDC) for neglecting safety protocols during maintenance operations.

As per NEPRA, NTDC’s failure to implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) resulted in accidents, prompting the regulatory body to take action. NTDC has been instructed to conduct an internal investigation into the incidents and submit a comprehensive report. Additionally, the company must compensate the affected workers and their families while ensuring the fine is paid within three months.

NEPRA highlighted that these accidents were a consequence of NTDC’s non-compliance with the NEPRA Act, which requires strict adherence to workplace safety measures to prevent hazards.

In a related case, NEPRA previously penalized the Quetta Electricity Supply Company (QESCO) with a Rs10 million fine for failing to maintain proper earthing and grounding of its poles and structures. QESCO was unable to provide a satisfactory explanation in response to NEPRA’s show cause notice regarding its failure to meet safety standards. The company has been given 15 days to submit the fine.

Reaffirming its commitment to workplace safety, NEPRA has warned that any violations of safety regulations will result in stringent penalties across the power sector.
