Minister for Maritime Affairs, Qaiser Ahmed Sheikh, has revealed the government’s plan to channel at least 60% of public sector trade through Gwadar Port as part of efforts to optimize its operational potential and transform it into a key hub for regional trade.
In an exclusive interview, he emphasized Pakistan’s strategic geographic position, which provides significant opportunities for international trade, particularly with Central Asian states, the Middle East, and beyond. He highlighted the necessity of strengthening connectivity by upgrading road and rail networks, ensuring seamless cargo movement to and from Gwadar.
Sheikh further stated that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is actively overseeing this initiative, recognizing its crucial role in improving the country’s trade and logistics framework. The government is also working on policies to attract investment, enhance port facilities, and streamline customs procedures to make Gwadar a more competitive and efficient trade gateway.
