Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday urged his cabinet members to strive for exceptional performance in order to drive the country’s economic transformation and meet public expectations through accountability.
During a televised address at the federal cabinet meeting, which he chaired, the prime minister emphasized that Pakistan’s economic progress was paramount and could be attained by enhancing performance in key sectors such as agriculture, commerce, trade, finance, information technology, mining, and maritime affairs.
Welcoming the newly appointed cabinet members, he expressed his confidence in their abilities, describing them as committed professionals capable of delivering results with dedication and hard work.
He highlighted the urgent need for the complete revival of the Railways and noted the vast potential of the Maritime Affairs Ministry in contributing to economic growth.
The prime minister announced his intention to personally oversee a quarterly review of all ministries’ performances. He instructed federal ministers and secretaries to be well-prepared and present comprehensive reports during the upcoming evaluation sessions.
Shehbaz Sharif also addressed the increasing security challenges, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, acknowledging the sacrifices made by law enforcement agencies (LEAs) and the armed forces. He stressed that without ensuring complete peace, economic progress and prosperity would remain unattainable. He commended the dedication of police, rangers, and military personnel, emphasizing that their sacrifices must never be forgotten.
Furthermore, the prime minister noted a significant rise in foreign remittances, which had surpassed $3.1 billion, and underscored the importance of boosting exports at a similar pace.
Additionally, he revealed the government’s plan to establish a cutting-edge university using £190 million recovered from the UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA). The institution, named “Daanish University,” will focus on advanced disciplines such as artificial intelligence and technology. The university’s first academic session is set to commence in August 2026.
