Chris Wood Nets 12th Goal as Nottingham Forest Secure 3-0 Win Over Wolves

Chris Wood scored his 12th Premier League goal of the season as Nottingham Forest triumphed 3-0 against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Molineux Stadium on Monday. The victory kept Forest firmly in the race for an unexpected title challenge, securing their position in third place.

Morgan Gibbs-White and substitute Taiwo Awoniyi also found the back of the net, helping Forest secure their sixth consecutive league win. This marks the first time the team has achieved such a streak in the top flight since 1979, under the legendary Brian Clough. Forest now have 40 points from 20 games, trailing leaders Liverpool by six points, with Liverpool holding a game in hand. Their current tally mirrors that of Leicester City at the same stage of their remarkable 2015/16 title-winning campaign.

Speaking after the match, Wood emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency. “It’s about staying focused and continuing the strong performances we’ve shown this season. Confidence, belief, and teamwork are key. We tweak our approach to keep improving, but it’s far too early to talk about a title challenge,” he said.

Wolves had their opportunities to fight back, particularly through striker Jorgen Strand Larsen, who squandered several clear chances. Despite being level on points with others in the relegation battle, Wolves remain just above the drop zone on goal difference.

Gibbs-White opened the scoring for Forest in the seventh minute, capitalizing on a swift counter-attack. After linking up with Anthony Elanga, Gibbs-White fired a precise shot into the bottom-right corner. Wolves nearly equalized when Strand Larsen had a tap-in blocked on the line by Murillo. Larsen then saw his powerful header brilliantly saved by Forest goalkeeper Matz Sels.

Forest doubled their lead before halftime through Wood, who finished a brilliant move created by Callum Hudson-Odoi. The winger surged down the left flank, shrugged off Matt Doherty, and delivered a perfect cut-back for Wood, who slotted the ball home with ease.

In the second half, Wolves struggled to create further chances, with Sels once again denying Strand Larsen. Forest sealed the win in the closing moments when substitute James Ward-Prowse set up Awoniyi, who netted his first goal since February.

The result keeps Forest’s dream season alive as they continue to defy expectations in the Premier League.
