FIFA Reinstates Pakistan Football Federation After Governance Reforms

FIFA has officially lifted the suspension on the Pakistan Football Federation (PFF) after its Congress unanimously endorsed constitutional amendments proposed by FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). This decision reinstates Pakistan’s membership, allowing the national team and clubs to participate in international football competitions once again.

In an official statement, FIFA confirmed that the suspension was revoked on March 2, 2025, following the successful implementation of governance reforms. Shahid Khokhar, a member of the PFF Normalisation Committee, emphasized that Pakistan is now eligible to engage in global football events, paving the way for the country’s return to the international stage.

The suspension was initially imposed on February 6, 2025, due to resistance from the PFF Congress regarding proposed changes to the electoral framework. However, after extensive discussions and negotiations, the revised constitution was formally approved on February 27. This approval aligned the PFF’s governance structure with FIFA and AFC standards, prompting FIFA to restore Pakistan’s membership.

This marks the second time the PFF has faced suspension from FIFA. Previously, the federation was banned in April 2021 due to third-party interference in its affairs. That suspension lasted until June 2022, when FIFA reinstated Pakistan’s footballing rights after corrective measures were implemented.

With this latest reinstatement, Pakistan’s football authorities aim to rebuild and strengthen the sport within the country, ensuring compliance with international governance standards while striving for long-term stability and development in the game.
