The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has rejected the bail petitions of 22 PTI workers arrested in connection with the November 26 protest near Faizabad. The protest, organized by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), led to road blockages and clashes with law enforcement authorities.
Judicial Magistrate Shahzad Gondal had reserved the verdict after hearing arguments from both the prosecution and defense, which was announced on Tuesday. The court ruled that the evidence presented against the detainees justified their continued custody.
The detained PTI members remain in judicial custody as their bail applications have been denied. They were booked at Ramna Police Station under multiple charges, including violating Section 144, unlawful assembly, and disrupting public order.
The decision has sparked criticism from PTI leaders, who argue that the arrests are politically motivated and part of a broader crackdown on opposition voices. Meanwhile, legal representatives of the accused plan to challenge the verdict in a higher court.
