Karachi experienced one of its coldest nights of the season, with the mercury dropping to 8°C. According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature is expected to fall further to 7°C in the next 24 hours. The city’s residents have been experiencing colder-than-usual conditions due to the ongoing spell of icy winds and dry weather. Across Sindh, similar cold and dry conditions are being reported, with dense nighttime fog likely to affect visibility in Sukkur, Shaheed Benazirabad, Shikarpur, Kashmore, Khairpur, and surrounding areas.
The chilly weather in Karachi is being exacerbated by icy winds blowing in from Quetta, which have lowered the real-feel temperature by 2–4°C. These winds, traveling at speeds of 5–15 km/h, have contributed significantly to the biting cold in the city. Despite the recorded minimum temperatures, the wind chill effect has made it feel much colder, leaving residents bundling up in layers to stay warm.
Sindh’s interior regions are also experiencing extreme cold, with Mithi recording the lowest temperature of 0°C, followed closely by Mohenjo Daro at 1°C. Both areas are under the grip of an intense cold wave, with the Met Office predicting further drops in temperature. Mithi, in particular, is expected to experience an unprecedented low of -1°C on Thursday, marking one of its coldest days in recent years.
This ongoing cold wave is part of a larger weather system affecting much of the region. The Met Office has advised caution, particularly in areas prone to fog, as reduced visibility could impact travel and daily activities. The combination of strong winds and plummeting temperatures has created harsh conditions for both urban and rural communities, prompting people to take extra measures to stay safe and warm during this severe cold spell.
