The National Stadium Karachi is set to be inaugurated tomorrow (Tuesday) following extensive upgrades in preparation for the Champions Trophy 2025.
The prestigious tournament’s opening match will take place on February 19, featuring host nation Pakistan against New Zealand at the newly renovated stadium.
To celebrate the grand reopening, a colorful event has been planned, including performances by renowned artists, a dazzling fireworks display, and an immersive light show. Entry for the public will be free of charge.
Extensive Renovations Completed
According to PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, the renovation process began on September 28 and was successfully completed by January 31. The upgrades include:
✔️ Complete reconstruction of the pavilion
✔️ New seating installations across all enclosures
✔️ Modern LED lighting and advanced scoreboards
✔️ Enhanced stadium grills for better safety and aesthetics
✔️ Removal of barriers for an improved spectator experience
✔️ Upgraded hospitality boxes for VIP guests
✔️ A newly built pedestrian bridge for ease of access
Acknowledging the contributions of all involved, Mohsin Naqvi praised the collaborative efforts of the Frontier Works Organization (FWO), NESPAK, contractors, and the PCB team, whose dedication ensured the project’s timely completion.
Champions Trophy 2025: Tournament Overview
The ninth edition of the ICC Champions Trophy is scheduled to begin on February 19, with Pakistan facing New Zealand in the curtain-raiser at National Bank Stadium Karachi.
This eight-team tournament will feature 15 matches over 19 days, hosted across Pakistan and Dubai.
Pakistan’s Host Cities
🏟️ Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi will each host three group-stage matches
🏟️ Lahore will be the venue for the second semi-final and the final on March 9
However, if India qualifies for the final, it will be relocated to Dubai due to political considerations.
Both semi-finals and the final will have reserve days in case of weather disruptions.
Additionally, India’s three group-stage matches and the first semi-final will be played in Dubai.
