Pakistan and Iran conduct joint naval drills to enhance cooperation

Pakistan and Iran recently conducted a joint naval exercise, Passage Exercise, designed to enhance operational coordination and foster mutual learning between their naval forces. The exercise emphasized teamwork through synchronized activities.

The event coincided with the visit of Pakistan Navy ships Rasadgar and Azmat, along with the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA) vessel Dasht, to Iran’s Port Bandar Abbas. The flotilla, led by Commodore Muhammad Umair, Commander of the 14th Destroyer Squadron, participated in the drill.

During the port call, the mission commander engaged in discussions with Iranian naval officials. These meetings centered on areas of shared interest, bilateral naval cooperation, and initiatives to bolster maritime security in the region.

Previous Collaborations

In December, the Pakistan Navy Ship Saif carried out a joint patrol and passage exercise with the Royal Navy of Oman’s vessel Al-Seeb and the Spanish Navy’s ship Santa Maria. This exercise was part of the Focused Operation Karakoram Resolve.

Organized under the Combined Task Force and led by Pakistan, the operation aimed to strengthen coordination and mutual understanding among regional navies while demonstrating their capability to execute joint missions. The PMSA ship Kashmir also took part in this operation, reaffirming Pakistan’s dedication to regional maritime security and collaborative efforts.
