Peace Pasoon Jirga Held in Karak to Address Rising Security Concerns

A “Peace Pasoon” (Rise for Peace) Jirga was recently held in District Karak in response to the worsening security situation in the region. The gathering took place in Takhte Nasrati and saw active participation from leaders and workers of various political parties, officials from the district administration, and senior police officers. According to the organizers, the jirga was initiated by local residents, with elders leading an awareness campaign for several days to ensure broad community engagement. The primary objective of the Peace Pasoon Jirga was to devise effective strategies to curb violence and restore lasting peace in the district.

During the jirga, speakers expressed grave concerns over the rising incidents of violence, highlighting that over the past six months, the district has witnessed attacks on the Bahadur Khel police checkpoint and polio vaccination teams. These attacks have resulted in the tragic loss of more than ten lives within just fifteen days, creating fear and uncertainty among the local population. Community leaders stressed the urgent need for coordinated efforts between the public and law enforcement agencies to prevent further violence and ensure the safety of residents.

Participants shared their perspectives on the security challenges faced by Karak, proposing various measures such as enhanced police presence, intelligence-sharing mechanisms, and community-based vigilance programs. Many emphasized the importance of unity among political parties and social groups to collectively address the issue. They urged authorities to take swift action against elements responsible for destabilizing the region while also advocating for long-term peace-building initiatives.

The jirga concluded with a strong commitment from all attendees to work together in fostering a secure and peaceful environment. Community elders pledged to continue their efforts in mobilizing public support for peace initiatives, while law enforcement officials assured their cooperation in addressing security threats and maintaining order in the district.
