PM Shehbaz Sharif Pushes for Modernizing Federal Healthcare and Establishing Islamabad as a National Healthcare Model

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has instructed the Ministry of National Health Services to upgrade federal healthcare facilities and establish Islamabad as a benchmark for healthcare excellence across Pakistan.

During a meeting to review the ministry’s performance, the prime minister reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring equitable healthcare access throughout the country. Highlighting the importance of modernizing healthcare infrastructure, he directed officials to expedite the development of the Jinnah Medical Complex and Research Center, a flagship project aimed at transforming healthcare delivery.

To ensure transparency and efficiency, the prime minister ordered the immediate initiation of the pre-qualification process for procuring state-of-the-art medical and surgical equipment. This process, he stated, must be supervised by an expert consultant and subjected to rigorous third-party audits of both construction work and equipment procurement to maintain high standards and avoid irregularities.

Additionally, the prime minister emphasized the need to swiftly finalize and approve the charter for the university associated with the Jinnah Medical Complex, which aims to serve as a hub for advanced medical education and research.

During the meeting, it was disclosed that the Jinnah Medical Complex has been formally registered as a company under Section 42 of the Companies Act, signifying a crucial step toward institutionalizing the project. The steering committee has already approved its comprehensive master plan, while recruitment for the Project Management Unit (PMU) and Project Implementation Unit (PIU) is actively underway to accelerate project execution.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif reiterated his vision of turning Islamabad into a model for healthcare excellence and urged the Ministry of National Health Services to prioritize efficiency, transparency, and innovation in all ongoing initiatives. This landmark effort is expected to set a new standard for healthcare development nationwide, benefiting millions of Pakistanis.
