President’s Trophy Grade-I: Ghani Glass Dominate HEC, Waqar Ahmed Shines for KRL on Day Two

Ghani Glass secured a dominant 10-wicket victory over Higher Education Commission (HEC) on the second day of the third round of the President’s Trophy Grade-I at the UBL Sports Complex. Chasing a modest target of 102 runs, Ghani Glass reached the total in just 13.4 overs, with Sharjeel Khan smashing an unbeaten half-century.

Sharjeel scored an unbeaten 54 off 49 balls, featuring five boundaries and three sixes, following his impressive first-innings knock of 75 off 83 balls, which included 11 fours and two sixes. Earlier, Ghani Glass resumed their second innings at 179-9 and were bowled out for 191, securing a 51-run first-innings lead.

In their second innings, HEC managed only 152-9 in 47 overs. Opener Abdullah Fazal was the standout performer with a solid 89 off 155 balls, hitting 13 fours and a six. Ghani Glass’ off-spinner Haseeb-ur-Rehman excelled with three wickets, finishing with match figures of 9-85, while Mir Hamza, Afaq Afridi, and Ubaid Shah chipped in with two wickets each.

At the SBP Sports Complex, KRL’s Waqar Ahmed played a resilient knock, remaining unbeaten on 172 off 279 deliveries, with 12 fours and three sixes, as his team reached 286-6 in 96 overs. Starting the day at 3-1 in 2 overs, KRL trailed PTV by 45 runs at stumps with four wickets in hand.

At the NBP Sports Complex in Karachi, SNGPL ended the day at 78-2, holding a slender 20-run lead in their second innings. Meanwhile, SBP, resuming their first innings at 71-2, posted 300 all out, securing a 58-run lead. Key contributions came from Muhammad Ghazi Ghori (83 not out off 128 balls, 9 fours), Imran Butt (75 off 107 balls, 12 fours), Rameez Aziz (68 off 102 balls, 7 fours), and captain Umar Amin (51 off 84 balls, 9 fours).

Over at the KCCA Stadium, OGDCL built on their overnight score of 265-5 to reach 346 all out in 122.2 overs. For WAPDA, Ali Raza, Khalid Usman, and Mohammad Asghar each took three wickets. In reply, WAPDA were 168-4 in 61 overs at the end of play on day two.
