The Sindh Health Department has reported a notable rise in respiratory infections across the city, with 248 cases recorded as of February 13. Authorities have raised concerns over the rapid transmission of these illnesses, which has led to an increased number of hospital visits and admissions.
Official statistics show that 119 cases of H1N1 influenza have been confirmed, with 99 patients being treated in private hospitals and 20 at Dow University Hospital. Additionally, there have been 95 cases of Influenza A and B, 8 cases of COVID-19, 15 cases of Rhinovirus, and 2 cases of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). The growing number of infections has put additional strain on healthcare facilities, prompting enhanced monitoring and precautionary measures.
Medical experts are urging the public to take proactive steps in reducing the spread of respiratory illnesses. They recommend wearing face masks in crowded spaces, maintaining hand hygiene, and avoiding direct contact with infected individuals. Those experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, or difficulty breathing should seek medical attention without delay. Additionally, individuals diagnosed with respiratory infections are advised to remain at home for at least 24 hours after their fever subsides naturally and to avoid unnecessary travel to limit further spread.
To control the outbreak, the Sindh Health Department is emphasizing the importance of influenza vaccination, particularly for vulnerable groups such as young children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with preexisting health conditions. Authorities have also initiated public awareness efforts to educate citizens on preventive measures and early symptom detection.
Hospitals have been placed on high alert, with increased capacity to manage the surge in cases. Health officials continue to monitor the situation closely and are prepared to introduce additional public health measures if necessary.
