Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Murad Ali Shah has highlighted a critical issue affecting the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) in Karachi, stating that stay orders and internal political dynamics are contributing to a severe shortage of medical staff at the facility. The shortage is impacting the hospital’s ability to provide adequate care to patients, with various departments running below capacity.
The CM pointed out that legal challenges, such as stay orders, have hindered the recruitment process for new medical professionals, further exacerbating the staffing crisis. These stay orders are preventing the hospital from bringing in much-needed doctors, nurses, and other healthcare workers, which is leading to increased pressure on the existing staff and delays in patient care.
Moreover, the CM also addressed how internal politics at the administrative level of the JPMC is playing a role in the ongoing staffing issues. Political interference has led to delays in decision-making, with key posts remaining vacant or unfilled for extended periods. These delays, according to the CM, are not only disrupting the hospital’s operations but also compromising the quality of healthcare services provided to the public.
In response to the growing concerns, the Sindh government is reportedly working on resolving these issues. The CM assured that efforts are underway to lift stay orders and expedite the recruitment process to fill vacant positions. He also emphasized the need for improved administrative practices at JPMC to ensure that internal politics do not affect the hospital’s performance.
The situation at JPMC comes at a time when the demand for quality healthcare services in the province has never been higher. The shortage of staff is putting additional strain on an already overburdened healthcare system, which is struggling to meet the needs of a growing population.
The CM has urged all stakeholders, including the judiciary and relevant political figures, to work together in resolving these issues. He called for a collective effort to ensure that the hospital can function smoothly and continue to provide essential medical services to the people of Sindh.
As the government takes steps to address the challenges at JPMC, citizens are hopeful that these actions will lead to a more efficient and well-staffed healthcare system in the region.
