Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has officially launched the distribution of Solar Home Systems (SHS) to 200,000 low-income households across the province, marking a significant step towards renewable energy adoption in the region.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony in Karachi, he highlighted the project’s primary objective—providing affordable and sustainable electricity to vulnerable families, particularly those still struggling to recover from the devastating floods of 2022. He stressed that the initiative would not only improve living standards but also contribute to long-term energy resilience in Sindh.
The Chief Minister described the Sindh Solar Project as a crucial move toward reducing dependency on traditional energy sources and fostering energy self-sufficiency. He reiterated the provincial government’s unwavering commitment to clean energy solutions, recognizing them as a pathway to economic empowerment and environmental sustainability.
To ensure a smooth and systematic rollout, the government has devised a structured distribution plan. Each district will receive 400 SHS kits per week, enabling the completion of all 200,000 units by July 2025. The initiative is expected to benefit thousands of households by lowering electricity costs, reducing reliance on erratic power supply, and promoting the use of renewable energy in off-grid and underserved areas.
Officials also underscored the broader impact of the program, noting that solar home systems will enhance access to essential services such as education, healthcare, and communication by providing a stable electricity supply. Additionally, the project aligns with global sustainability goals, reinforcing Sindh’s role in Pakistan’s transition toward greener and more efficient energy solutions.
