Thousands Gather in Sehwan for the 773rd Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar

The 773rd annual Urs of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar concluded in Sehwan, drawing thousands of devotees from different parts of the country to the revered Sufi shrine. The event, deeply rooted in spiritual tradition, serves as a gathering for people seeking blessings and engaging in religious and cultural festivities.

To mark the occasion, the Sindh government announced a public holiday across the province on Wednesday, ensuring widespread participation in the celebrations. Various cultural and literary programs were arranged, including a special musical performance at the Shahbaz Public Library, coordinated by the Sindh culture department, to honor the region’s Sufi heritage.

The Urs also featured a diverse range of activities, including exhibitions of traditional handicrafts, a book fair, and a literary conference focusing on Sufi teachings and Sindhi culture. One of the festival’s highlights was the Malakhro (Sindhi wrestling) competition, which attracted large audiences eager to witness this historic sport that reflects the region’s traditional values.

This year’s festivities placed significant emphasis on promoting and preserving Sindh’s cultural legacy, with local artisans, scholars, and performers actively contributing to the event. The celebrations not only provided a spiritual experience but also showcased the province’s rich cultural identity.

To mark the conclusion of the Urs, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah is scheduled to visit Sehwan today, where he will pay his respects at the shrine of Hazrat Lal Shahbaz Qalandar. His visit symbolizes the government’s recognition of the saint’s enduring spiritual influence and contributions to Sufi philosophy in the region.
